A tragic incident unfolded in South Ozone Park, Queens, on Saturday when a yellow taxi struck and killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk. The accident occurred around 3:10 a.m. at the intersection of 115th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard.
According to police reports, the driver of the taxi, a 23-year-old man, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Rav4 when he collided with a Honda Accord operated by a 25-year-old. The impact from this vehicular crash caused the taxi to veer off course, subsequently jumping the curb and careening onto the sidewalk where three individuals were present.
The yellow cab struck a 51-year-old woman, identified as Vidya Dookran-Franco from Merrick, New York. Witnesses and a police source indicated that she became “pinned” against a nearby fence due to the force of the collision.
Two other men, aged 44 and 49, were also struck by the taxi during the chaotic aftermath of the crash. Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene and transported all three victims to Jamaica Hospital for medical attention.
