A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, where a 32-year-old woman was fatally struck after exiting a moving vehicle. The accident took place around 1:30 a.m. near the Kissena Boulevard exit in Flushing.
According to police reports, the woman exited the back seat of a gray Volkswagen Passat while it was in motion and subsequently fell onto the expressway. Moments later, she was hit by another eastbound vehicle, which struck her left leg. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but pronounced her dead shortly after their arrival.
The 44-year-old Uber driver of the Volkswagen Passat remained at the scene and reported no injuries. Authorities confirmed that the driver was cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
In the aftermath of the incident, the NYPD highway patrol temporarily closed all four eastbound lanes of the expressway as they conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s ejection from the vehicle and her subsequent death.
As of this writing, police have not confirmed the reasons for the woman’s sudden exit from the vehicle. Her identity has not been released pending notification of her family. Investigators are working to determine whether she was struck by additional vehicles on the roadway.
