Two pedestrians were hospitalized following a car accident in Queens early Sunday morning. The incident took place just before 5 a.m. on Steinway Street, between 25th and 28th avenues. According to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), a red sedan was traveling southbound on Steinway Street when it veered off the road, striking a sidewalk dining area and two pedestrians.
The pedestrians, a 22-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman, were immediately taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the vehicle sped onto the sidewalk, impacting an outdoor dining space and colliding with one parked car before hitting the two women.
The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene. Police charged her with vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and driving while intoxicated (DWI). Specific details regarding the driver’s counsel were not available at the time of the report.
