A tragic car accident in Jamaica, Queens early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 63-year-old Uber driver. Mamadou Barry lost control of his Toyota RAV4 around 5:20 a.m. while driving along 90th Avenue, ultimately crashing into a detached garage at the intersection of 90th Ave and 143rd Street. The collision caused the garage to collapse onto both Barry’s SUV and a parked Toyota Prius situated inside the structure, leading to catastrophic damage.
Witnesses reported that Barry’s vehicle veered off the road, hopping the curb before careening into the driveway of the garage. The force of the impact trapped Barry inside his vehicle, prompting immediate response from first responders who worked to extricate him from the wreckage.
Barry was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities suspect that Barry may have suffered a cardiac arrest during the incident, though it remains unclear if this medical emergency was the cause of his vehicle losing control.
