Three Children Lose Mother in Tragic Car Wash Accident Involving Intoxicated Employee

Car accident in Queens

On Monday afternoon in Ozone Park, Queens, a 54-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car wash employee who was allegedly under the influence. The tragedy unfolded at approximately 2 p.m. at the Crossbay Car Wash, when a 2011 Jeep Liberty, driven by one of the workers, collided with the victim, who was near the establishment at the time of the incident.

The woman, later identified as Tracie McManus, succumbed to severe body trauma at a local hospital. McManus, a mother of three, had been a single parent since her husband’s passing. The victim’s daughter, Megan, witnessed the accident and was alongside her mother during her final moments.

McManus’s family has been left in a state of shock and heartbreak over the sudden loss. Her brother-in-law, Hugh, expressed that the family is struggling to cope with the immense grief and are at a loss for words over the devastating incident. The community has also been affected, with many expressing their condolences and support to the bereaved family.

The driver of the vehicle, 43-year-old Edwin Vargas, faces multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated (DWI), and driving while ability impaired. Authorities have begun legal proceedings against Vargas, although it remains unclear if he has issued a plea in response to the allegations. As the case progresses, further information is anticipated to be released.
