Teens Steer and Crash Unmanned Train at Queens Subway Station, Police Report

Car accident in Queens

NEW YORK — Two teenagers attempted to operate an unoccupied subway train at the Briarwood station in Queens early on September 12, leading to a crash that caused significant damage to the train. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, according to police reports.

Authorities state that the pair, identified as a 17-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, gained access to the empty subway train and managed to operate it before ultimately causing it to crash. The exact distance the train traveled before the crash remains unclear, but law enforcement has confirmed that the train sustained damages as a result of the reckless actions of the teenagers.

Following the crash, the individuals exited the train and fled the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident, as the train was unoccupied at the time. Surveillance footage captured images of the two teenagers inside the train, aiding investigators in their efforts to identify the suspects.

Police conducted an investigation following the incident, which culminated in the arrests of the two teenagers on September 13. Charges against them include reckless endangerment and two counts of criminal mischief. The actions of the teenagers have drawn attention due to the potential hazards involved in tampering with subway operations, especially in a densely populated area like Queens.
