A 19-year-old driver is facing manslaughter charges following a tragic car accident on the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa that resulted in the deaths of two women on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when Jaden Dsouza, operating a black 2016 Dodge Dart, crashed off the parkway after reportedly speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.
According to New York State Troopers, Dsouza lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree situated near the shoulder of the roadway. In the back seat were his older sister, Haily Dsouza, 21, and her friend, Crystal Alba-Figueroa, 23. Both women suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Alba-Figueroa was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, while Haily Dsouza remained trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a catastrophic collision. “The troopers came upon a pretty horrific scene given the damage and the two deceased,” stated New York State Police Captain Vincent Augeri. Preliminary investigations suggest that Dsouza may have been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.
