QUEENS, NEW YORK — A hit-and-run incident in Queens resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals on Sunday morning, prompting an urgent search by law enforcement for the driver responsible for the crash.
Surveillance footage captured the harrowing events leading up to the collision. The video revealed a silver Volkswagen hatchback traveling at speed before it struck two people riding a scooter head-on on 57th Avenue. Following the impact, the vehicle then rammed into two parked cars, igniting a fire that required swift intervention from the fire department.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with debris from the scooter scattered across the roadway. The crash, which occurred shortly after 8 a.m., left one man dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Eyewitnesses recounted the desperate attempts to save the victims, with one observing emergency responders administering CPR on the injured individuals.
One neighbor recounted her shock upon hearing the crash, stating she felt immense sorrow for the victims. “The driver looked back at the people he injured and just took off. I can’t believe he left them there,” she lamented. The suspect was noted to have exited the vehicle after the collision but fled the scene, returning briefly to retrieve something from his car before escaping.
