QUEENS, NEW YORK — A hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of two individuals in Queens. Authorities are actively searching for the driver responsible for this tragic crash.
According to police reports, the accident occurred just after 8 a.m. when two people riding a scooter were struck head-on by a silver Volkswagen hatchback on 57th Avenue. Following the collision, the Volkswagen crashed into two parked vehicles, which ignited a fire. Surveillance footage captured the suspect exiting the car to briefly assess the scene before fleeing on foot.
Witnesses reported hearing the impact of the crash, and the chaotic scene unfolded rapidly. One nearby resident described seeing one of the scooter riders face down on the road while emergency responders administered CPR. The visceral aftermath, marked by debris scattered across the roadway, underscored the severity of the incident.
Firefighters arrived promptly to control the resulting blaze, even breaking the windows of a parked van in their efforts to vent smoke. Despite rapid medical attention, one of the scooter riders was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second succumbed to injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.
