QUEENS, N.Y. – A series of fatal traffic accidents occurred in Queens on Sunday, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, according to local police reports.
At approximately 8:20 a.m., a Volkswagen traveling westbound on 57th Avenue near 80th Street collided with a moped heading in the opposite direction. The impact was severe, resulting in the deaths of both individuals on the moped, who were identified as men in their 20s or 30s. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to injuries shortly thereafter. Following the crash, the driver of the Volkswagen struck two parked cars before fleeing the scene, raising concerns about reckless driving in the area.
In a separate incident on the Grand Central Parkway near Parsons Boulevard, a car overturned just before 7 a.m., leading to one fatality and two injuries. A 22-year-old driver of a Mercedes sedan was reportedly eastbound when he collided with two other vehicles also traveling in the same direction. The crash caused the Mercedes to overturn, leading to further impacts. The driver, identified as Manuel Torres, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
