In a tragic incident in Long Island, a man was detained on charges of driving under the influence following a devastating crash into a local nail salon that claimed four lives and injured nine individuals. The collision occurred in Deer Park around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, according to Suffolk County Police.
The suspect, identified as Steven Schwally of Dix Hills, was reportedly speeding across the parking lot before his SUV smashed through Hawaii Nail & Spa’s front window. At the time of the accident, the salon was in full operation with customers and staff inside. The vehicle came to a halt near the back of the salon, which is situated in a busy strip mall.
Upon arrival, fire officials found Schwally in a semiconscious state inside his SUV. Police announced that three women and one man succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Among the injured were eight females, including a young girl aged 12, and one male, several of whom suffered serious injuries. All have been transported to hospitals for medical assistance.
Authorities stated that Schwally himself was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The county police revealed the identities of the deceased as Jiancai Chen, 37; Yan Xu, 41; Meizi Zhang, 50—all from Queens—and Emilia Rennhack, 30, a local resident from Deer Park.
