At least four individuals lost their lives following a series of traffic incidents in New York City on Saturday morning, including a wrong-way hit-and-run on the Henry Hudson Parkway. The first fatal crash occurred around 2 a.m. when a pickup truck was observed driving southbound in a northbound lane, ultimately colliding with a Dodge Challenger. The vehicle, operated by a 40-year-old man, had a 38-year-old male passenger. Both occupants of the Challenger were declared dead at the scene, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Following the collision with the Challenger, the pickup truck struck an Audi and a Toyota SUV. Fortunately, the drivers of both the Audi and the Toyota were not seriously injured in the incident. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. The NYPD continues to search for the driver as they investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of fatal crashes in the city, as police reported two other deadly accidents occurring just hours apart in Queens on Friday night. The first of these crashes happened shortly before 7 p.m., when two men, aged 17 and 21, were riding a motorcycle near 73rd Avenue and 184th Street in Fresh Meadows. The motorcycle collided with a 75-year-old man driving a 2017 Acura RDX.
