In a recent development surrounding a fatal accident that occurred nearly three years ago on a busy Queens thoroughfare, authorities have announced the apprehension of a suspect in connection with the event. The collision claimed the life of a pedestrian and stirred ongoing concerns regarding the safety of the area.
The incident, which took place at the intersection of Rockaway Blvd. and Brookville Blvd. near Kennedy Airport, resulted in the death of 38-year-old Dimitry Maneiro, who was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in the early hours of September 27, 2021. Following the accident, the driver fled the scene without providing aid or notifying authorities.
Through the course of their investigation, law enforcement officers identified Andre Dweyer, a 34-year-old resident of Jamaica, Queens, as the alleged driver of the 2014 Infiniti involved in the fatal collision. Dweyer has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to exercise due care. According to police records, Dweyer has no prior arrests.
As the case proceeds, Dweyer has surrendered to the police and was arraigned in Queens Supreme Criminal Court. Following his court appearance, he was released on a $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for the following month.
