In West Hempstead, Long Island, an October 2021 BMW crash that resulted in the deaths of two teenage friends has led to a plea agreement. Nylah Frazier, who was responsible for the fatal accident has agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter and assault. The agreement will potentially reduce her jail time to a span of three to nine years, whereas she could have faced up to 15 if convicted on her original charges, which included two counts of second-degree manslaughter.
At the time of the crash, Frazier, then 18, was reported to be driving at speeds in excess of 100 mph when she failed to stop at a sign and collided with a parked truck. The two passengers, 17-year-old Amanda Arguinzoni and 19-year-old Kurtis Caesar, were ejected from the vehicle and died instantly according to court records.
Arguinzoni was a high school senior, and Caesar had recently graduated and was employed at FedEx. Both families of the deceased have expressed profound outrage over the jail time associated with Frazier’s plea.
During the plea hearing, an attempt by Frazier’s lawyer to address the victims’ families was met with vocal anger, leading to a disturbance in the courtroom that required court officers to separate the opposing parties. Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly released a statement condemning the reckless actions of the defendant and citing the profound losses suffered by the Arguinzoni and Caesar
