In a tragic incident on Long Island, a 21-year-old woman has been charged with vehicular manslaughter following a fatal car crash in Massapequa, Nassau County. Rachel Lodice of Jericho is accused of hitting a 2022 Nissan Altima while driving her 2023 Kia on Hicksville Road near Sunrise Highway at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The collision resulted in the death of the 64-year-old Nissan driver, who succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Additionally, a 46-year-old passenger in the Nissan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment at the same facility.
Authorities reported that after the accident, Lodice commandeered a marked public safety vehicle that had arrived on the scene to render aid. The Oyster Bay public safety officer who was driving the vehicle had stopped to assist with the traffic incident when Lodice allegedly stole the vehicle and fled the scene. She was quickly apprehended by law enforcement officers shortly after the escape.
Along with vehicular manslaughter, Lodice faces charges of leaving the scene of an incident, driving while intoxicated, and grand larceny. She is currently awaiting her arraignment, details of her legal representation were not immediately clear at the time of the report.
