BROOKVILLE, NY — A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a dump truck claimed the life of a 28-year-old Glen Cove resident on Thursday, according to Nassau County police. Joffre Sierra-Chalen died at the scene after his 2002 Yamaha motorcycle struck a 2000 Hino dump truck on Cedar Swamp Road.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. as Sierra-Chalen was traveling northbound and collided with the dump truck, which was making a turn onto Cedar Swamp Road from Hemlock Drive. The truck was driven by a 55-year-old male operator, whose name has not been released.
Emergency responders, including a paramedic from the Jericho Fire Department, arrived at the site of the accident where Sierra-Chalen was pronounced deceased. The crash did not result in any other reported injuries.
Law enforcement conducted a safety inspection of the dump truck at the scene as part of the investigation, which remains active. Further details surrounding the cause of the accident have yet to be disclosed.
The aftermath of the crash led to the closure of Cedar Swamp Road in the vicinity between Fruitledge Road and Apple Road. The road remained closed for several hours, finally reopening to traffic shortly after 10 p.m.
