Two Young Children Left Unattended in Vehicle in Valley Stream, Police Report

Car accident in Nassau County

A woman was taken into custody in Valley Stream, Long Island, after allegedly abandoning her two young children in a car. The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 10th, eliciting a prompt response from Nassau County Police following a witness’s alert.

The authorities reported that 33-year-old Sandra McLamb of Queens Village parked her vehicle in the lot of a HomeGoods store located at 750 West Sunrise Highway. She reportedly went inside to shop, leaving her 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter unattended in the vehicle.

Concerned bystanders noticed the children crying inside the car without an adult present and contacted the police. Responding officers arrived on the scene and safely extracted the children from the car.

Upon McLamb’s return from her shopping excursion, police apprehended her. She faces charges including two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. McLamb is scheduled for arraignment at the First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday, April 11th.

Following the incident, medical evaluations were conducted on both children at a nearby hospital. Afterward, they were placed into the care of another family member. The Nassau County Police have not released further details about the investigation or the well-being of the children post-evaluation.
