Tragic Collision: Vehicle Plows into Long Island Nail Salon, Killing Four and Injuring Nine

In a tragic incident in Deer Park, Long Island, four individuals have lost their lives and nine others have sustained injuries following a vehicle collision with a nail salon on Friday afternoon. The crash was reported around 4:32 p.m. when a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse operated by 64-year-old Steven Schwally of Dix Hills, sped into the parking lot and smashed through the front window of Hawaii Nail & Spa, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Upon the arrival of emergency services, three women and one man were discovered deceased at the scene, and a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced them dead. Eight of the injured parties were transported to nearby hospitals, and a critically injured victim required air transportation to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The driver, Schwally, who survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries, was later taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated. He awaits arraignment at a date yet to be determined.

The names of the deceased have been officially released by Suffolk County Police. The victims included Jiancai Chen, 37, from Bayside, Queens; Emilia Rennhack, 30, from Deer Park; Yan Xu, 41, from Flushing, Queens; and Meizi Zhang, 50, also from Flushing, Queens.
