MINEOLA, NY – In a tragic sequence of events in New Hyde Park, a high-speed crash claimed the lives of three family members leaving a Sweet 16 party on Jericho Turnpike back in May 2022. On June 16, 2024, the driver responsible, 23-year-old Dante Lennon of Freeport, was sentenced to six to 18 years in prison.
Lennon, under the influence and driving well beyond speed limits, lost control of his Mercedes Benz, colliding first with a Lincoln Town Car and then a parked Ram pickup truck. The catastrophic crash resulted in the deaths of Marlene Luu (66), Hoa Ho (68), and Tu Nguyen (41) and inflicted injuries on three additional passengers.
The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, led by DA Anne T. Donnelly, sought a sentence of seven to 21 years for Lennon, who pleaded guilty to Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Manslaughter in the Second Degree. During the sentencing at the court of Judge Tammy Robbins, DA Donnelly underlined the indescribable devastation suffered by the families, marking what was meant to be a night of celebration as a night of sorrow and loss.
Lennon was immediately arrested at the scene by Nassau County Police Department officers, which initiated the legal proceedings that concluded with the latest sentencing.
