In a recent turn of events on Long Island, a 21-year-old woman from Georgia was indicted following a collision on Sunrise Highway that resulted in the death of a 64-year-old woman. The accused, identified as Rachel Lodice, faced arraignment before Judge Tammy Robbins on various charges, including second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence of drugs.
The incident claimed the life of Cynthia Mitchell, who was on a shopping trip with a friend when the collision occurred. Mitchell is survived by a husband and an 18-year-old daughter who is preparing for college. During the arraignment, Mitchell’s bereaved family members were in attendance, with her husband, Theodore Mitchell, expressing a desire for justice.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly detailed the reckless nature of Lodice’s driving prior to the impact, noting that she was swerving through traffic and ran a red light at the intersection of Hicksville Road and Sunrise Highway. The crash resulted in Mitchell’s death and left her friend, Melinda Ward, injured. Since the accident, Ward has been experiencing significant distress and memory issues, according to her mother, Jewel Ward.
