Stolen Car Crashes into Utility Pole in Hicksville, Nassau Police Investigating

HICKSVILLE, NY – A Thursday morning call led Nassau County police to the site of a car crash at a local towing company. Upon their arrival at AAAA-1 Towing, housed at 34 Charlotte Avenue, officers encountered the aftermath of a collision involving a black 2023 Dodge Durango and a utility pole. The vehicle was discovered unattended, with the driver having fled the scene. Further investigation revealed the Durango was reported stolen.

The search for the suspect did not last long. Police officers quickly located a man in the vicinity and placed him under arrest without any further complications. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Brooklyn resident Christopher Gilbert, is facing multiple charges. These charges include Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. Following his arrest, Gilbert was expected to have his arraignment the subsequent day at the First District Court located at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.

As the incident unfolded, the area was secured by law enforcement to ensure the safety of residents and passersby. The Nassau County Police Department is continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the theft and crash of the Durango. They have not released additional details regarding the condition of the utility pole or if any further property damage occurred as a result of the impact.
