On Friday morning, an electric shock incident at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore, New York, resulted in severe burns to two men and caused a significant power outage, affecting park facilities including the Newbridge Ice Arena. Nassau County police are currently investigating the event, which has prompted an indefinite closure of the ice rink, a popular year-round recreational venue.
During routine work inside a service room, a 62-year-old maintenance worker received injuries from an electrical source, including burns to his arm and abdomen. A 39-year-old individual, who attempted to assist the first victim, was subsequently injured, sustaining burns to his arm. Emergency responders airlifted the older victim to a medical facility, while the second injured man received transport to a hospital via an ambulance from the Bellmore Fire Department. Both men are reportedly in stable condition, and their names have not been released by the authorities.
The electrical mishap took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. and led to the immediate closure of the Newbridge Ice Arena, as announced on the facility’s Facebook page. In tandem with this announcement, the Town of Hempstead issued a notification to its residents that the local ice rink and the opening of the pool would be delayed due to the electrical issue.
Local officials have assured the public that they will provide updates regarding the re-opening of the affected facilities.
