Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run, Holbrook Resident Charged

A tragic hit-and-run incident in Holbrook, Suffolk County, resulted in the death of a pedestrian in December, authorities reported. The victim, identified as 63-year-old Richard DiRocco of Holbrook, was struck on Coates Avenue near Frank Court around 5 p.m. on December 3.

The Suffolk Police have since charged 72-year-old Michael Sabeno in connection with the fatal accident. After the collision, DiRocco was immediately transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation, Sabeno was apprehended and is set to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip. Details regarding the charges laid against Sabeno were not immediately available, but fleeing the scene of an accident involving a fatality is a serious offense in New York State.

The deadly crash was part of a distressing day on the roads of Suffolk County, which saw another fatal accident occurring within the same timeframe. This has shed further light on traffic safety concerns in the area.

The community has been reminded to stay vigilant for updates as this story continues to develop, underlining the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic laws to prevent future tragedies.
