In Harlem, Manhattan, a male suspect was apprehended following an incident in January where an NYPD officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop, the police department reported.
The individual identified as Francis Cardona, 21, faces multiple charges including assault, leaving the scene of an incident, vehicular assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, evasion of law enforcement in a motor vehicle, and criminal possession of stolen property.
On the evening of January 23, around 6 p.m., police officers conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Highlander in the vicinity of Harlem River Drive and West 159th Street. During the stop, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, running over one of the officers on scene.
The impacted officer was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained to his neck and back.
