In Freeport, a tragic incident occurred over the weekend as a 77-year-old woman lost her life while crossing Merrick Road. Nassau police are actively investigating the accident that took place on Saturday evening.
The elderly victim, whose identity is being withheld until familial notifications can be made, met a tragic fate near South Main Street. The accident occurred at approximately 8:25 p.m. when an eastbound 2018 Honda Accord struck the woman. Moments later, she was hit by a 2020 Dodge Durango traveling south on Main Street.
Suffering from critical injuries as a result of the impact, the pedestrian was quickly transported to a local hospital. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
