The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP Scholarship Program is designed to help high school students (upon graduation from high school) or college students who are interested in attending an institution of higher education. We value education as a vital foundation for creating fulfilling, advantageous careers. We are proud and excited to help students achieve their goals of furthering their education.
Eligibility – Applicants must meet the following Criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent U.S. resident.
- Be accepted to an institution of higher learning.
- Be graduating high school or receiving GED within 9 months.
- A two or four-year college student enrolled in a US-institution for undergraduate studies.
- Employees of the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP, Consultwebs.com, Inc., their boards of directors and immediate family members are not eligible for this essay contest.
Requirements:
The following documents must be provided for consideration (.doc, .docx, or .pdf format only) to the attention of Richard Jaffe via email only to [email protected].
- An official copy of a current academic transcript.
- Proof of legal residency in U.S. (i.e. birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, permanent resident card, etc.).
- Proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning. Should a winner be chosen that is still waiting on an acceptance letter, candidate will have until June 19, 2019 to provide proof of acceptance before forfeiting the prize.
- A one-page essay of no less than 500 and no more than 750 words on one of the following topics:
- General
How was your life affected (by either you or someone you care about) that was was injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence. How did this accident have an impact on your life? What did you learn from it and how did it help your grow? - Distracted Driving
Everyone is aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, however, many people continue to make the decision to drive under the influence. Write an essay about the reasons why people continue to drink and drive – and what initiatives could be executed to address those reasons. - Sports Injuries
Do you think that there is enough emphasis on safety in sports to prevent concussions? What do you think we should do to curb concussions in high school athletics?
Award:
A total of five prizes will be awarded. One applicant will be awarded a $1000 scholarship for first prize, one applicant will be awarded $500 for runner-up, and three applicants will be awarded $250 for honorable mention. Law Firm Scholarship award recipients will be notified of the selection on or before June 7, 2019.
The Law Firm Scholarship is to be used exclusively for tuition at an institution of higher learning and related expenses such as books, supplies, etc. An award check will be made payable to the award recipient’s school and/or supplier of books, supplies, etc. to cover these expenses. Award winners are expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.
Deadline:
Completed applications must be submitted no later than April 5, 2019. Application materials should be emailed in .pdf, .doc or .docx format only to Richard Jaffe at [email protected].

- Top 10 finalists notified: April 26, 2019

- Winners announced: June 10, 2019
How to win:
Ten essays will be selected by the law firm as finalists and published on our site. The essays that receive the most votes from visitors to the site during the public voting period will be the winners.

Please include the following, in addition to the requirements set forth above:
- Include your full name, email address, mailing address and phone number at the top of your essay. Also please be sure and include the name of your school principal/counselor, and their email address and telephone number for reference. This will be the information that we use to contact you if your essay is selected as the winner, but will not be shared with the public if you become a finalist. If you are one of the 3 winners, your name and image will be shared with the public.
- Please include 1-2 sentences about yourself. (What school, college or university you attend or plan to attend and your plans for the future, and what school you are attending now.)
Please DO NOT include:
- Letters of recommendation, tax returns, resumes, bank statements or any other materials not mentioned above.
- Please DO NOT call the law firm asking where to send your essay. Send your submission to Richard Jaffe via email only in .pdf, .doc or .docx format only to [email protected].
Tips for the Essay:
- Be original. Do not simply regurgitate what others have written. Do not plagiarize. It is grounds for immediate disqualification.
- Research the subject. This is an issue rich with opportunity for creative and persuasive writing.
- Submissions should be of a serious nature.
- We place no value on your specific political or religious beliefs, although you are free to include some politics and/or religion in your essay, within context, if you believe it to be necessary.
Ownership of Entries:
All entries submitted to the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP in connection with this contest, along with all copyright, trademark and other proprietary rights associated therewith, become the property of the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP upon submission.
Entry materials will not be returned to any entrant. By submitting an entry, you acknowledge that if you win the scholarship contest, the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP will own all rights to publish and promote the submission.
Use of Name and Likeness
All entrants agree that they consent to the use of their name and area of residence, as well to the use of their likeness (as in a photograph) and prize information.
