On August 6, in East Massapequa, Nassau County, a devastating car accident resulted in the loss of four lives when a man, impaired by drugs, crashed into a family’s vehicle at a high rate of speed. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Michael DeAngelo of Lindenhurst, was sentenced to serve seven to 21 years in prison for the fatal collision.
DeAngelo, under the influence of cocaine and fentanyl, was driving in excess of 120 mph when he rear-ended the car of Patrice Huntley, a 60-year-old veteran who was celebrating a new job with his family. Huntley, along with his two children Jeremiah, 10, and Hannah, 13, and his 6-year-old step-granddaughter, Chantel Solomon, all succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Chantel Solomon later died in a hospital after fighting for her life for six days. Huntley’s 18-year-old daughter, Brienna Peoples, and 14-year-old nephew, David, survived the crash but were hospitalized for their injuries.
