In a tragic event, recently a woman who was in her 50’s was hit by a dump truck as she attempted to cross a busy intersection in Brooklyn. The incident occurred around six in the morning and, according to witnesses the woman was jaywalking even though a crosswalk is available for pedestrians. The truck driver apparently had a green signal when the woman was hit. She died at the scene. In another truck accident in Bronx a car rear-ended a box truck around 5:30 in the morning. Two people in the car were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The NYPD is investigating both crashes.
Any accident where a life is lost or where people suffer a serious injury is devastating. For anyone who has been in a truck accident in the New York area should consider contacting a Nassau County truck accident attorney to get the facts of one’s case evaluated and, to examine what legal recourse, if any, is available to the victim or victims.
Given the size of trucks compared to car, truck accidents tend to be more devastating and, legally can get complex. If the driver of a truck was negligent, the driver of the truck, the trucking company, employers, contractors, and insurance companies may be required to compensate an injured party.
An injured party may be able to recover damages for burial and funeral expenses, loss of consortium, loss of earning capacity, medical expenses both as a result of the accident and future expenses, punitive damages, pain and suffering and more.
