Triple Yellow Cab Crash Near Holland Tunnel Leaves Three Injured

Unusual, but this accident did happen and three cabs were involved! It happened close to the Holland Tunnel where three yellow taxis crashed in to each other causing three injuries, one serious, to take place.

Michael Bonnaza, who was one of the cab drivers involved in the accident, was not injured but he reported that the accident was partially caused by one of the cab drivers losing control of his cab due to defective brakes.

The accident occurred at the corner of Canal and Varick streets when the taxi with allegedly defective breaks crashed into the two other cabs. It was in this cab that a passenger of around 30 years of age appeared to suffer serious injuries, as she did not respond to verbal communications.

There can be nothing more devastating than using someone else to transport you, such as a yellow cab, and a serious life-changing accident takes place. Many people take cabs because they then avoid driving on busy New York roads and someone else takes the responsibility of patiently navigating the traffic and getting them from A to B safely. Not today, as this poor woman will now have to face the consequences of choosing a yellow cab rather than some other form of transport.

The cause of the accident has not been fully investigated yet, but there is some indication that the cab driver could not stop the cab due to faulty brakes. There are many reasons for faulty brakes, including poor brake components, poor or inadequate car servicing or poor spare parts. No doubt an investigation team will establish the cause as the cab’s insurer will want to know before any insurance payments are made. Meanwhile, the cab passenger will be facing medical bills and maybe other things, like loss of earnings, while recovering and depending on relatives for support.

Fortunately, anyone who is seriously injured in a yellow cab accident may be entitled to file a personal injury claim so that he or she can be compensated for any financial hardship caused by the accident. A compensation claim usually includes the cost of medical treatment, the value of loss of earnings while recovering, an amount for pain and suffering as a result of the accident, and if negligence is proven to be the cause, punitive damages may be included too.

In this accident, anyone injured will be busy trying to recover, but there is a statute of limitations in New York for personal injury claimants, and this is usually 2 years from the date of the accident. Once the date has passed there is no entitlement to filing a personal injury claim.
