Driving a car brings with it independence, convenience and freedom to travel on the roads. However, driving any vehicle carries with it a risk of potentially being in an accident at some point. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, someone is in a car accident every 10 seconds. Sadly, some accidents can seriously injure or cause the death of another.
For New York residents who have been injured in an accident, or know of a family member who has been harmed or killed due to the negligence of another driver, they should consider seeking the expert advice of a Nassau County personal injury attorney.
This was exemplified recently in Harlem. According to authorities, a Brooklyn man was charged after the van he was driving collided with a Ford Focus. The two-car crash resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Focus, and also injured a 44-year-old pedestrian when the vehicles careened into the sidewalk after the collision. The driver of the Focus, and the two infants in the rear passenger seats, were hospitalized, but suffered non-life threatening injuries. The husband of the woman who died was devastated.
After such a tragic incident, the families of the injured parties are left to make sense of it all. Even though a lost life cannot be brought back, the family of an injured party may find closure in holding the negligent party responsible. The injured party or the family may be able to recover damages such as medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of consortium, pain and suffering and more.
