Our Long Island defective automobile lawyers report on the recent automobile recalls.

Only last week, Volkswagen was told to recall some of its diesel-powered vehicles due to the failure to follow regulations regarding safe emissions. This failure to follow laws may not cause any accidents or injuries, but this week’s request for Hyundai to recall of 470,000 Sonatas involves a potential serious accident risk.

The recall is due to a serious engine problem that could cause crashes. The actual problem has to do with key engine parts because there is a manufacturing problem that could cause them to fail. The recall is for Sonatas that are either 2011 or 2012 models and have been installed with 2.4 or 2-liter gasoline motors.

The company has revealed that metal fragments may still be present in the crankshaft. This could restrict the flow of oil to the connecting rod bearing which could result in a failure. If that were to occur, the engine might stall and a crash could take place.

When returned to a dealer, an inspection will be performed and the engine assembly will be replaced at no cost. The company has said it will extend the engine warranty up to 120,000 miles or 10 years.

These sorts of recalls wreak havoc on vehicle owners, as it not only puts them at risk of having a serious accident and being seriously injured, but the inconvenience of having to get a repair done on a new vehicle is disheartening to owners who have either borrowed money or saved in earnest to buy a car of their choice.

At this point, there has been no indication that the engine issue has yet caused any injuries or fatalities. Often, if a car runs off the road before the engine is checked for a fault, another motorist is blamed for causing the accident. So, if a fault in the vehicle caused the accident, but it is never revealed, unsuspecting drivers could continue to drive their vehicles, oblivious to the fact that they could be dangerous.

If a driver or passenger is injured in a vehicle accident, and a defect in the vehicle is found to be the cause, and the manufacturer of the vehicle should have known about it, then it may be possible for the victims to file a lawsuit against the vehicle manufacturer. Whether you live in New York or anywhere else in the country, provisions are made for filing a lawsuit against someone who has caused an accident and serious injuries to victims.

Car accidents can cause devastating injuries, some of which are life-changing and require lifelong care by relatives and caregivers. This is when filing a personal injury lawsuit can provide financial relief to the injured victims and their families. It is expensive to provide care for seriously injured accident victims. When a lawsuit is filed against the person who caused the accident, the calculated amount may include the cost of medical treatment, the value of lost earnings, an amount for pain and suffering, and punitive damages if the accident was due to egregious negligence.

To ensure you receive a fair and just amount in a personal injury lawsuit, you will require the assistance of an experienced New York and Long Island personal injury attorney like Richard S.
